Jake’s Take on Sports

As we come to you this week, we are all enjoying our first taste of winter like weather up here in the Tundra.

A dusting of snow and winds of up to 50 miles an hour greeted Northeast North Dakota on Oct. 26.  This is a big time change from 50 plus degree temps we were having in the weeks previous.  The National Weather Service is calling for a colder than normal winter, and it’s always a nice slap in the face when we get any kind of snow before Halloween.  The good news is that this first sight of the white stuff isn’t expected to last, but colder and maybe more snow looks to be coming the first weekend of November.  Hopefully everything will recover, as everyone hopes to at least get to Thanksgiving before Jack Frost nestles in for four months.  We shall see, but the weather is at least expected to calm down nicely for the Cardinals playoff game with defending state champions Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm on Oct. 28.  And that means the Cards should be able to run all facets of their offense without any weather issues, something that was much different in their first round win over Kindred.

Ramberg wins the East Region Cross Country crown

Another big shout out goes out to Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cross Country runner Elise Ramberg this week, as she won the East Region Cross Country Meet, held in Cooperstown on Oct. 21. She ran the Cooperstown course with a time of 18:57, which was 23 seconds better than the next girl.  That is a great time considering she was battling the wind the same way our area football teams were.  Elise is the first East Region champion since Lauren Treleaven did it in 1998.   She and the Langdon-Edmore-Munich girls and boys cross country teams, along with teams from Pembina County North will now advance to the State Cross Country Meet in Valley City on Oct. 28. We also need to mention that Jayden Wheeling from PCN took fifth on the boys side at regionals, while Arik Christianson just missed making the All-Region team taking 21st.  We wish everyone the best of luck at the state meet.

Lady Cards to hold Senior Night on Oct. 30

On the Volleyball front, the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals team will have their last regular season home match this year on Oct. 30 in Langdon.  That will also be Senior Night for the Lady Cards, and four Cardinals seniors, Rachel Hill Jordyn Worley, Arynn Crockett and Kellie Hetler will be honored along with their parents before the match.  They are four very talented athletes, and hopefully everyone can get out and see them play one last time on their home court.  The match itself is also a big one, with the Cardinals hosting North Star.  Both teams were unbeaten in Region 4 matches at press time, which means this match will determine the regular season Region 4 Champion, and the top seed in the Region 4 Tournament to be held Nov. 6-9 in Devils Lake.  It should be a fun evening, and again the team would love to see a packed house to see it in person.

Remember Hard Times is jamming at the Eagles on Oct. 28, Happy Halloween and “See ya!” next week!!
