The restaurant is located at 324 Broadway in Osnabrock. The family friendly diner is open from Sunday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The restaurant features a daily lunch buffet along with a different soup and sandwich. On Sundays the restaurant offers a breakfast buffet.

Barker stated that “We can cater to all get togethers, weddings, birthdays, and more” Barker also said that the cafe may open for additional hours if there is a need.

According to Barker, she does all the baking. She makes cinnamon caramel rolls, poke cakes, cookies and various pies. Her husband takes care of the other cooking.

Barker said “The buffet is by far the best seller.” One of the other favorite items on the menu is their southern fried chicken. She admits that North Dakotans have a fondness for meats and potatoes, but she and her husband try add a little southern flare to their dishes.

Both Barkers are from the south and hope to add a little southern twist to their cooking. David, a chef, originally from South Carolina, came from the Red Willow Resort Cafe in Binford. Heather, originally from Alabama, received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and helps take care of the business side.

The Barkers live in Michigan and commute to Osnabrock each day. They have three children, a 16-year-old boy and two girls, six and five-year-old.

When asked about how they heard about the Barley Bin Cafe, Barker replied that her husband’s boss found an ad for a new owner for the Barley Bin Cafe in their local paper. He thought the couple was a good fit for the restaurant.

He showed the advertisement to the Barkers. The current owner was unable to keep the cafe open and needed someone to buy and run the cafe. Barker and her husband drove over, looked around, and were very happy with the restaurant setup. They then decided to purchase the diner.

The Barkers will raffle a free lunch or breakfast on November 1. The Barker’s explained, “You do not need to be present to win. Just stop in and have a meal and ask to be entered.”
