They played four games in the tourney, winning two and losing two. They ended up with a third place finish and a record of 17-2. We congratulate the entire team and coaches Kade Pengilly and Logan Waslaski on another fantastic season. While full box scores were unavailable, here are some highlights of Langdon’s four games at the State B Babe Ruth Tournament:
The Eagles started off the tourney playing Casselton, and it was a very close game most of the way. Simon Romfo changed that with a grand slam home run late in the contest to help give Langdon the win 6-1. Simon Romfo, Grant Romfo and Jackson Delvo all combined to get the win on the mound.
The win over Casselton put the Eagles in the winners bracket, where they faced LaMoure. Simon Romfo had two early hits in the game as Langdon trailed by 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when Langdon got two runners on and Delvo singled in one to tie the game. Then Brennen Kitchin came up bombed a walk off home run to end the game in dramatic fashion, 6-3. Simon Romfo and Cooper Zimmer combined to get the victory on the mound.
In the third game of the tourney, Langdon comtinued in the winners bracket and met Thompson. Five errors ended up costing them the game, as they 4-3 midway through the contest but lost 8-4. Simon Romfo had another homer in the contest, while Grant Romfo and Kitchin each had doubles. Zimmer and Tucker Welsh also had key hits in the game, but it was not enough. Zimmer took the loss on the mound.
Still with a chance to get into the championship game, Langdon met LaMoure once again in a loser out game. Kitchin took the mound and pitched his heart out, but LaMoure won a very close game 2-1. Simon Romfo scored the only run of the game for the Eagles in the sixth inning.
LaMoure ended up beating Thompson twice to win the title. What an incredible run it has been for the Langdon Babe Ruth Eagles. And while a number of players will officially move to American Legion Baseball next summer, there is a lot talent still on the team for next year, and there is a lot of help coming down the pipeline, as all Langdon baseball programs should be stacked for years to come.
The Langdon Babe Ruth Eagles won the District 3 championship in Minto on July 22 and earned their second consecutive trip to the State B Tournament in Steele to defend their state title. In the opening round on Friday, July 27 the boys defeated Casselton 6-1 with the help of a grand slam by Simon Romfo. They went on to face LaMoure on Saturday and came away with a stunning win after a walk-off home run by Brennan Kitchin ended the game with a score of 4-3. Cooper Zimmer pitched three innings of scoreless relief to help secure the win. The Eagles then faced Thompson on Sunday but lost the contest, 8-4. This was a double elimination tournament so they played against LaMoure for a second time on Monday. They battled hard, and Simon Romfo got his second home run of the tournament but were defeated with a score of 2-1 ending with a third place finish. Way to go, Eagles!
