Ratzlaff joins Park River Dental

Kim Ratzlaff will be the new dental hygienist for Park River Dental in their Langdon office. Not many people realize that Park River Dental has had an office open on Wednesdays in Langdon since August of 2015. The office will now offer nearly all the services they offer at the Park River office.

Until recently, only restorative procedures such as fillings and crowns were done in the Langdon office. Since Ratzlaff joined the team, the office can now offer more services. As a dental hygienist, Ratzlaff can perform many of the same tasks a dentist would do.

Some of her job duties include removing plaque and tartar from patients’ teeth, using dental instruments to clean teeth, protecting patients’ teeth using sealants and fluoride rinses, and instructing patients on proper maintenance of their dental hygiene.

Ratzlaff graduated in 2002 from Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead as a dental hygienist. She said she then worked a few years before continuing her education. She received her bachelors of science degree from Minnesota State University -Mankato in 2012.

Langdon is fortunate that Ratzlaff comes with a great deal of experience. She has worked for Dr. Schefter and Dr. Shelby in Langdon and Dr. Legacy in Edmore.

As a Langdon resident, Ratzlaff helps her husband on the farm when she’s not working at the dental office. She has two daughters, ages 10 and 5, that attend Langdon Elementary School. Her oldest daughter competes in Canada on a gymnastic competitive team, and soon her youngest will also start gymnastics in Canada.

Ratzlaff believes that oral healthcare is as important as overall health. It is important to have your teeth cleaned at least twice a year. Bacteria from your mouth can travel into your bloodstream causing other medical problems. By having a hygienist in Langdon, it saves the community members from having to drive out-of-town to have dental services.

On Wednesdays, both offices will be open, with one doctor in Langdon and the other in Park River. Current officer hours in Park River are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Hours for the Langdon location are only on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Schedule appointments with the Park River office, 701 284-6131 or toll-free 888-284-6789.
