The meeting started with old business. Langdon Area Schools Superintendent Daren Christianson gave an overview of the school year 2017-2018 financial report. Christianson made a very auspicious opening, noting that with the help of Business Manager Shauna Schneider and accountant Emil R. Schoenfish from the Devils Lake accounting firm of Britsch and Associates, the school’s financial report for the past year has been balanced.
Christianson covered several areas of increased spending including additional teacher salaries and health insurance premiums and other areas of increased revenue that the school system received including some specialized federal grants and local levy funds. In short, the year’s revenue and debt equaled to nearly what was projected.
After much discussion, the school board members voted to approve the 2017-2018 budget report. Then the board moved to new business and swore in Warren Jonasson as a new LASB member.
The members also discussed advertising for someone to help Schneider in the office from full to part-time, given Schneider’s needs at the time. The board scheduled their next meeting for Monday, October 8.
