The search for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Cavalier County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) has come to an end as Jeff Stanley officially joined CCMH on Monday, December 17.
By Melissa Anderson
Originally from Atlanta, Ga., Stanley began his medical career as a pharmacist. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from Mercer University. Later, Stanley would continue his education, gaining an MBA from the University of Georgia.
Prior to his position at CCMH Stanley has had a successful career in hospital administration starting in 1999 at South Fulton Medical Center located in East Point, Ga. There Stanley worked his way up the ladder to become the associate administrator in 2007 and Chief Operating Officer in 2009.
“I left that facility to become the Corporate VP of pharmacy at WellStar Health System in Marietta, Ga. in 2012 and was responsible for 11 hospital pharmacies and 16 outpatient pharmacies,” Stanley said.
Following WellStar, he moved on to become the Chief Operating Officer of Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman, Ala. in 2015. Fast forward to 2018, and Stanley now finds himself in the frozen tundra that is northeast North Dakota in the middle of December.
“I am very excited to become a part of this small community,” Stanley stated. “I look forward to experiencing all the outdoor winter activities that I have never had the opportunity to experience …ice fishing, riding snowmobiles, etc.”
After nearly 20 years working in corporate America, Stanley is looking forward to the smaller, family-feel operation that is CCMH. The community support the hospital receives is also a strong point as its not just a facility, its the community’s facility. While the facility may be a rural hospital, Stanley also notes that there is a lot of potential for CCMH moving into the future for growth and development.
“The nicest, friendliest folks in the community, love the small town feel. People know who you are and speak to you,” Stanley said. “Love the feel of neighbors taking care of neighbors at the hospital. I am excited to get as involved as possible with the community.”
As the new CEO, Stanley is focused on continuing to ensure that CCMH has a future as a medical facility in Cavalier County. He envisions securing that goal by expanding and stabilizing the medical staff, add/promote service lines that local folks are traveling out of town to get, and making CCMH the hospital of choice for the surrounding communities.
A problem that has dogged CCMH for years is the recruitment and retainment of doctors for this highly rural facility. This particular issue has Stanley already preparing how he will combat it. The goal is to expand the CCMH team of outside recruiters to “include the best in class to keep the pipeline of candidates flowing and expand our reach geographically.”
“I think it is very important to get potential providers to visit the hospital and community to see what a great place it is to live and work,” Stanley added.
