Lady Cards gets two decisive wins over Bottineau and Rolla

The Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals girls basketball team look to expand their depth when they played at Bottineau Dec. 15 and at home in Munich versus Rolla on Dec. 18. A lot of girls got some valuable varsity court time as the Lady Cards beat the Stars, 83-45, and the Bulldogs, 73-25. With the wins the Cardinals are now 4-2 on the season. They played Cavalier on Dec. 21 right before the Christmas break, with their next game coming at Carrington on Dec. 29. Here is a recap of their last two games:

The Cardinals got off to a rather sluggish start against the Stars, but things got much better as the game went along. The Cards pushed the ball for one fast break basket after another and coupled that with a fairly decent shooting night. Langdon-Edmore-Munich shot 48 percent for the game.

Callie Ronningen had a fine all-around game for the Lady Cards, scoring a season high 28 points, plus pulling down nine rebounds along with four assists and six steals. Kaitlynn Scherr put in 20 points, followed by Lexi Olson with 14. Morgan Freije had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Cardinals held the Stars to just 34 percent shooting, and they were led by Kaitlyn Wilmot with 11 points.

Langdon-Edmore-Munich 73, Rolla 25

Pressure defense got the Cardinals off and running against Rolla. Langdon-Edmore-Munich exploded to a 20-2 lead over the smaller Bulldogs before they took the press off midway through the first quarter.

The Cardinals had one of their best shooting nights of the year in the Munich gym, shooting 58 percent for the contest. Ten different Lady Cards players made the score book, led by Kaitlynn Scherr with 18 points, Callie Ronningen with 13 and Lexi Olson with nine.

Langdon-Edmore-Munich also had a season high with 23 assists for the game, led by Ronningen with nine. Scherr just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. The Bulldogs were led by Skylar Arnold with nine points.
