Tragedy forces Cardinals-Tornadoes games to be postponed; New dates scheduled

Posted 12/27/18

By Jake Kulland

We start this week by giving out sincere condolences to everyone in the community of Cavalier. A former student and Tornado boys basketball player died on Dec. 18, and everyone is still healing from the loss, and we will be a long time.  Langdon-Edmore-Munich and Cavalier were to play girls and boys basketball in Langdon on Dec. 21, and understandably so those games were postponed due to the situation.  We can now announce when those games are rescheduled.  The girls game will now be held on Jan. 29, with an early start planned, a JV game at 3:30 p.m., varsity at five.  The boys game is now on Feb. 15, with a little earlier start as well with the junior varsity starting at 5:00 p.m., varsity around 6:30 p.m.  Both nights we be played in Langdon.  It was not clear if Lake Region State College, who was planning on doing a “Royal Treatment Night” on Dec. 20, will reschedule that for another evening.  Again prayers to Cavalier, we are all here for you in this very difficult time.

Cardinals Elementary Basketball Camp to start in January

As has been for the last several years now, a basketball camp for grades 1-4 will be offered in Langdon beginning Jan. 5, and running every Saturday in January.  This camp is for kids in grades 1-4, and will again be run by Cardinals boys and girls coaches and players.  Langdon athletic director Ethen Askvig is heading things up again this year, and you can still sign your child up by going to the Langdon Area Schools Facebook page, or by stopping by the Langdon Elementary School for a form to fill out.  This camp has proven to be a very fun experience for everyone involved, and teaches the fundamentals of basketball, along with sportsmanship and learning skills to improve their game.  Kids that attend the camp will also get to play at halftime in several Cardinals home girls and boys basketball games throughout the month of January.  So if you haven’t done so already, get your child involved in this camp soon.

Lady Cards to play two games in the Capital City

After the Christmas Break, the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals girls basketball team is scheduled to play two games in Bismarck on Jan. 4-5.  They will play two non-conference games versus Shiloh Christian and Dickinson Trinity on those consecutive days.  The Cardinals were looking to beef up their schedule with some tougher competition this year, and this will only continue the big games they have already had this season.  Even after these two games, the Lady Cards still have two possibly three games coming up against teams in the top 10 in the state.  Langdon-Edmore-Munich is ranked eighth in the latest poll, and we as always wish the them the best of luck in their two games down south.

2019 is almost here

As many of you read our words this week, it is almost time for the New Year to ring in.  I’m sure we are all the same in that 2018 has certainly had it’s up and downs for everyone (Including our Minnesota Vikings, who have had a yo-yo type season), but with the coming of 2019 always brings hope that a kind of, sort of fresh start will be good for us all.  Here is wishing all of our readers health and prosperity (And a Vikings Super Bowl!, or just a playoff appearance at least) in the months ahead.

Happy New Year!  “See ya!” next week!
