Cardinals boys win at Park River 50-35 behind their defense

It has been an uneven start for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals boys basketball team this season. They have had three projected starters that have been out with injury all season. The Cards are finally getting some of those players back, as All-District center Alex Lowery was cleared to play in the Cardinals game at Park River-Fordville-Lankin on Dec. 20.

Lowery made a difference defending the paint on defense, as the Cardinals won 50-35. With the win the Cardinals are now 3-1 on the season, and after playing two games in Minot versus Minot Our Redeemers and New Town Dec. 28-29, Langdon-Edmore-Munich will play thier first game of the New Year in Drayton against Drayton-Valley-Edinburg on Jan. 5, with the varsity game starting around 3:00pm. The Cards game at home versus Cavalier was postponed on Dec. 21, and is now rescheduled for Feb. 15.

The Cardinals did not shoot the ball well in the first half against PRFL. They led just 18-17 at halftime, despite missing several open shots they normally make. The Cardinals got it going in the second half with leading scorer Grant Romfo blazing the trail. He hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter, with Blaine Perry adding another, as the Cards opened up a 10 point lead in the third quarter, with the Aggies getting two late baskets to make the score 33-27 after three.

Langdon-Edmore-Munich stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter, with Perry scoring seven of the Cardinals 17 points to win going away. Grant Romfo led the team with 15 points, followed by Perry with 12 and Simon Romfo playing another great all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. They missed 10 free throws from the line.

But the Cards defense was the most impressive highlight of the night, as they held the Aggies to just 13 goals and forced 25 turnovers. They also hope to get their two remaining players, Jackson Delvo and Ordale Morstad back from injury very soon, to put them at full strength for 2019.
