2019 COLA Increase Largest in Six Years

Veterans receiving disability pay and military retirees received an increase of 2.8 percent in their annual cost-of- living adjustment (COLA) for 2019. The increase, which started in December 2018, was the largest in six years.

The Social Security Administration announced the COLA increase for 2019 in October. Last year, the increase was 2 percent.

“So many veterans rely on disability compensation payments to make ends meet, and this cost-ofliving adjustment means that they will be able to continue to do so,” House VA Committee Chairman Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) said in a statement released in October.

For a veteran or military retiree receiving $1,500 a month in benefits, the increase means that he or she would receive about $42 additionally each month. That equates to more than $500 extra every year.
