Cardinals boys split two game with Rolla, FW-M

Team just misses upsetting the third ranked Indians

A 5-4 record was not what the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals boys basketball team was expecting at this point of the season, but injuries and adversity put them in this spot when they played at Rolla on January 17 then hosted the number three team in the state in Four Winds-Minnewaukan on January 22.

Four Winds-Minnewaukan 56, Langdon-Edmore-Munich 53
On of the most highly anticipated games on the Cardinals’ schedule this year was when they played Four Winds-Minnewaukan at home, and that happened on January 22.
A quick run to end the first quarter gave the Indians a 16-6 lead, but the Cardinals came right out in the second on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to four, 16-12. After FW-M built another 10 point lead at 24-14, the Cards went on a 13-4 run to get within two points at 29-27 at the half. Langdon-Edmore-Munich went 5 of 6 from the 3-point line in the second frame.
The Cardinals worked to grab a lead in the third quarter at 37-34 but then had a rash of six turnovers, helping the Indians go on a 12-0 run to retake the lead at 46-37 after three quarters.
Ordale Morstad had hit two shots from downtown, and Blaine Perry hit another to help the Cardinals get to within five points late in the game. Down 56-51 with under 20 seconds left, Simon Romfo stole a pass and went down to score on a layup, then the Cardinals got another steal and had the ball with 10 seconds left. With no timeouts left, the Cards had trouble getting a good look at the basket for a tying triple and a Grant Romfo three fell short as the buzzer sounded.
Simon Romfo had seven points in the fourth quarter and a team high 15 for the game, while Grant Romfo had 11 and Jackson Delvo and Morstad had nine each. The Cardinals were 10 for 34 from the three point line and shot just 34 percent for the game. Grant Romfo had a double-double, leading the team with 10 rebounds. The Cards held Indians 6 foot 10 inch center Bronson Walter to just two points for the game. Doug Yankton led FW-M in scoring with 15 points.
