A memorial service was held at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo on Saturday, February 23, 2019, for Gordon “Gordie” Porter, 87, of Fargo who passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin.
Gordon was born on May 15, 1931 to Ernest and Gladys (Atchison) Porter in Sarles. His birth mother passed away shortly after child birth, and Ernest married Elsie (McAdams) who raised him and his sister, Lois. After graduating from Hannah High School, he worked on the family farm until serving in the US Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, he worked on the family farm, then attended school at ND Agriculture College and began working in Fargo. He married Irma Bordt on January 16, 1957 in Fargo, where they raised their children. He is a member of Faith United Methodist Church and worked 36 years for Butler Machinery until his retirement in 1997. He was a wonderful father and husband and will always be remembered for his kind heart and generosity in helping neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife Irma, sons Steven (Harriett) Porter, Scott (Julie) Porter, and Stuart Porter; and daughter Gladys (Jim) Carlin. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Aaron, Sarah and Kathleen (Devyn) Carlin, David (Jordan) Porter, Reily Porter Altenburg, Jordan Novacek, and Christopher Porter; four great-grandchildren: Violet, Willow and Daunte Porter, and Ava Carlin; sister Lois (Bob) Axtman; and many loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents and stepmother Elsie.
