Travis Beck gives it on more try at NDSU Pro Day

By Jake Kulland

Let’s begin our visit this week by telling you that former Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals standout Travis Beck going for one more NDSU Bison Pro Day in Fargo as we write on March 28.  Travis, who is now in his mid-20’s, wanted to give it one more shot at impressing some pro scouts and hopefully play professional football.   From what were hear from Fargo is that he may be the oldest player to attend a pro day for the Bison, although it was also said that it would be nearly impossible to verify that.  How awesome a story would it be that Travis would make such a comeback after many injuries going back to his playing days that he could make an NFL or CFL roster.  It’s a story in itself for him to put all the time and work in just to get this one last chance.  We wish him nothing but the best, and if any transpires after his tryout we will be sure and let you know here.

Old Timers Hockey Tournament this weekend

The last big event of the season at Dakota Spirit Arena is coming up this weekend.  The 2019 Langdon Old Timer’s Hockey Tournament is being held March 29-31.  10 teams are involved this year, with three Langdon teams, along with clubs from Cavalier, Rugby, Park River, Morden and Killarney (MB) and Carwright (SK).  Games will run all weekend with the Championship Game to be held March 31 at 2 p.m.  Spectators are welcome to come out and watch the action, so get out and see many players from Langdon Blades teams in the past, along with some on the junior gold team from this past season.

Cardinals track Athlete of the Meet

You will notice in this weeks paper that we have the first track and field box scores of the season.  The indoor track season if off and running, and something has been added to the results this year for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich boys and girls teams.  The coaches will select an “Athlete of the Meet” after each event participated in.  There will be one boy and one girl picked for every one, just something to add to the program, and something for you a find each week.  The next meet for the Cardinals is April 2 in Belcourt, indoors, with the outdoor season still a ways away.

Highway 5 Pool Tournament coming April 7

The Highway 5 Pool League completed its season on March 21.  Now, players are looking forward to the end of the season individual tourney, which will be held this year on April 7 at the Langdon Eagles Club.  Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the tournament to begin at one.  This tourney is open to all Highway 5 Pool League members.  There were over 20 teams in the league this year, so they had another successful season.
