The Cavalier County Memorial Hospital Clinic in Walhalla has brought a new provider to the area to serve the community. CCMH is proud to introduce Mark Hill, NP, to residents of Walhalla and all of Cavalier County.
By Melissa Anderson
Hill has been a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the past five years. Prior to arriving in the Cavalier County area, Hill worked as a locum tenens provider. Healthcare facilities utilize locum tenens providers to fulfill their obligation to the community of providing healthcare services.
“For the last several years I have worked all over Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana and Washington [state] as a locum tenens provider,” Hill shared.
Hill’s career decision to become a locum provider is what many providers are doing across rural America. The shortage of healthcare providers and professionals is being felt in just about every rural health care facility. Becker’s Hospital Review has statistics that place 20 percent of the country’s population in a rural area. This makes the healthcare provider to patient ratio 1 to 2,500, which means that 60 million people are dealing with the impact of this shortage.
The dependence of these facilities on locum providers is huge. Filling the gaps is a primary concern. Getting someone to cover those gaps permanently is a bonus. For CCMH, they found not only a good locum provider but one who appreciated the area and what it has to offer.
“I came to CCMH as a locum provider over a year ago. I like it here, so I bought a house and stayed,” Hill said.
With his familiarity with travel, Hill doesn’t mind the commute to work as he resides in Walhalla with his wife and youngest son.
“I look forward to patient interaction. I love taking care of people and getting to know them,” Hill stated.
While Hill will primarily be as the CCMH Walhalla clinic, there will be some days that the Langdon clinic and ER will have his services available. The days of traveling across the region as a locum provider will be at an end for now as Hill enjoys the stability and communities of the Rendezvous Region.
“I look forward to having my own patients again, establishing relationships with people, establishing myself in the community,” Hill shared.
Hill is now seeing patients at the CCMH Walhalla clinic. Call to schedule your next appointment and meet the new provider.
