Dorothy Elaine Watkins was born February 25, 1920, in Carrington to George and Hattie (Mason) Watkins. She graduated high school from Bowbells. She continued her education at Minot State College and UND. She met the love of her life, Russell Schroeder, during her college years. After graduation, she worked at Farn Security Administration in her hometown. She and Russell were married April 25, 1942, in Carrington. Russell accepted a teaching position as an agricultural instructor in Langdon and later started Schroeder Furniture Company. Langdon became their home the rest of their lives and was where they raised their seven children. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for 62 years. She was also a member of Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was active in the community with Langdon Women’s Club, Langdon Country Club, and other organizations. She served on the Langdon Centennial Committee and was one of three writers of the 1988 pageant. She thoroughly enjoyed singing with her Sweet Adeline‘s group and going to different competitions around the state. Playing cards in bridge clubs seemed like a weekly event. She enjoyed the many visits with family and friends. She was a master of entertaining. Mom will be greatly missed! Memories of her love of life, great sense of style, and devotion to her faith will never be forgotten.
