Cardinals have two athletes make All-State teams
By Jake Kulland
Let us being this week by congratulating two Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals on making All-State teams, which were recently announced by the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. Sid Ullyott has made the All-State Class B Golf team, and Grant Romfo was also named to the second team of the Class All-State High School Baseball team. Ullyott had another stellar year, taking second place in the Region 3 Golf Meet, then finishing sixth at the State B Meet in Jamestown. Romfo was one of the team leaders on a Cardinals baseball team that finished second in the Region 4 High School Baseball Tournament. Grant had a fine all around season on offense, defense and pitching. His season was highlighted by throwing a no-hitter versus Pembina County North late in the regular season in Munich. A big congrats to both boys, it’s always fantastic to see our area athletes recognized on the state level.
Carter Currey named to Shrine Bowl team; Krivarchka to head coach the 11 Man East squad
The accolades just keep on coming this week, as word came out that recent Langdon graduate Carter Currey was named to the 2019 North Dakota Shrine Bowl team. This is a well deserved honor for Carter, who was the leading tackler and senior team leader of the Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals football team that won their first ever Class A Football State Championship. Currey will be a part of the 11 Man East team, which will also be helmed by Cardinals head coach Josh Krivarchka. Coach K has been named Class A 11 Man Coach of the Year the last two seasons, so it’s no surprise that he will be the head coach of the 11 Man East squad. This years Shrine Bowl games will be held July 13 at Cushman Field in Grand Forks. The 11 Man game will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by the 9 Man game at seven. Jayden Laxdal, Conley Carrier and Jaxson Fleming were named to the 9 Man East team from Cavalier.
Langdon School District Foundation Tournament coming June 22
We will leave you this week by telling you that the tournament season continues at the Langdon Country Club. Up next is the annual Langdon Area School District Foundation Tournament, which is happening on June 22. This is a four person scramble event, and it will tee off with a shot gun start at 10:30 a.m. It’s not too late to get a team in this event, just contact Chalmer Dettler for more information. Also a reminder that the Cardinals Sports Boosters tourney will happen on June 27, with Ethen Askvig being the contact person for that, which is also a four person scramble tourney. As we keep saying, the course is in great shape and looks beautiful, so come on out and take advantage of it by entering both tourneys.
“See ya!” next week!
