On Saturday June 8, 2019, Joel Hasse, loving husband and father, passed away at age 67. Joel was born on September 6, 1951, to Clarence and Carol Hasse of Tappen, ND. He graduated from Tappen High School in 1969 and attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he received a certificate in welding. In October of 1970 he entered the US Army and served 2 years, including a tour in Germany, and attained the rank of E-4. On July 2, 1977, he married Ruth Mahin. He never met a stranger, and he made it his mission in life to put others needs above his own. His great love, second only to his love for Ruth, was to fabricate new equipment and designs. He spent countless hours with his finger in the air thinking up over-engineered designs and equipment parts that ranged from small to large, from simple to complex. Then he’d explain them to anyone and everyone that would lend him an ear. Usually these doodads were designed and built for someone else. It was because of his great engineering mind that his daughters knew he could fix anything, much to the chagrin of their husbands.
Joel is survived by his wife, Ruth (Mahin) Hasse; daughters Melissa (Paul) Rowenhorst and Kimberly (Owen) Johnson; mother Carol Hasse; brother Roger (Cindy) Hasse, sister Suzy Hasse, brother-in-law Larry Grieser and their families; brother-in-laws John (Sandy) Mahin, Paul Mahin, and Aaron Mahin; and his beloved grandchildren: Stephen, Luke, Johnathan, Elizabeth, Silas, and Elias. Joel was preceded in death by father Clarence, sister Emily, and mother-in-law Carolyn.
A service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Tappen High School gym located on 2nd St NE at 2:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Waterfall Church for the school supply ministry at 4025 47th St. SE, Tappen, ND 58487.
