Funeral Services were held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home for David D. MacArthur, 75, of Reno, Nevada, formerly of Devils Lake, who passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. Burial will be at Corinthian Cemetery, rural Calvin.
David Douglas MacArthur was born in Langdon on August 29, 1943, to Gilbert and Elsie (McNaught) MacArthur. He graduated from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1961. He then attended Lake Region Junior College and obtained an LPN degree. He enrolled at Minot State University and graduated with a degree in Special Education. He worked for the Department of Defense for 30 years as a teacher for the hearing impaired. He taught deaf children how to communicate so they could mainstream into a regular high school setting. His employment took him to Germany, Italy, Korea and Okinawa. While in Korea, he adopted his son, Mark. He took early retirement in 1998 from the Department of Defense and later moved to Nevada where he has resided for the past 15 years.
David is survived by his son, Mark (Cindy) MacArthur, of Reno, Nev.; grandson Kyle Kim and granddaughter Kaylee Kim; brother Robert “Butch” (Lynn) MacArthur of Fargo; sister-in-law Betty MacArthur, Devils Lake; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Elsie; sister Nelda (Selmer) Berg; and brothers Jack MacArthur and Rick MacArthur.
Gilbertson Funeral Home of Devils Lake was in charge of arrangements.
