Albert Ernest Peebles was born on September 13, 1931 at Lake City, Iowa. He grew up in Lake City and attended the School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to a farmstead at rural Calvin and he attended the North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, graduating with the class of 1952. After graduation, he worked with his dad on the family farm and eventually took over the farming operation. He was united in marriage to Marilyn “Jean” McLeod on October 6, 1962 at Milton. They established their home on the farm, where they lived, worked side by side and raised their family. Along with farming, he owned and operated an Upholstery Business and was involved in many carpentry projects. In 1991 he and Jean moved to Devils Lake and worked various jobs in the Lake Region. He began working at the School for the Deaf as a Shuttle Bus Driver for the out-of-town students and was the Shop Teacher for 14 years, retiring in 2007. After retirement, he still enjoyed many wood working projects, and had more time to spend cheering on the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings and the Golden State Warriors. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, enjoyed membership and the activities of the Calvin Commercial Club and was a past president, the Masonic Temple at Sarles and the Scottish Rite and Eagles Club in Langdon.  He also was a member of the North Dakota Association of the Deaf and in 2015 was inducted into the ND School for the Deaf Athletic Hall of Fame for Basketball. His courage and fortitude to overcome the adversities of life is the legacy he leaves to his family whom he loved with all his heart.
