Young Langdon Red Sox team competitive just looking for some wins
By Jake Kulland
As we begin this week, the Langdon Red Sox Post 98 American Legion Baseball team is beginning to pick up steam with their schedule, and while just needing to get some wins. The Red Sox have out hit there opponents in nearly every game recently, it’s just that the hits haven’t seem to come at the right times. You have to believe that those things will work themselves out as the season goes along. Everyone needs to remember that this team lost a ton of players and talent from last season. This is years team is composed a majority of players that are either in their first year age wise of Legion Baseball, or are Babe Ruth age kids. So even though they have just one league win thus far, patience is needed by the fans as with more games and experience, hopefully the numbers in the W column will ad up. After playing in an Enderlin Wood Bat Tournament June 28-30 and being a part of the American Legion 100th Anniversary on June 29 in Grand Forks, the Red Sox will take most of the 4th of July week off, with their next action playing two games in Bottineau on July 7, and their next home game July 15 versus Larimore.
12U Cal Ripken Tournament kicks off the summer baseball tourney season
Summer baseball for all levels has been going on strong for the last several weeks, and the first league tournament is coming on June 30. The Northern 12U League Tourney will be held in Grafton on June 30. It’s an earlier date then usual, because this year the winner of this tournament will advance to a State 12U Tournament to be held in Bismarck July 10-14. This is something for the kids on all area teams to shoot for, should put some extra spice in the Grafton Tourney. We wish both Langdon 12U teams the best of luck in their quest to go to state. We will have more information on other end of the year tourneys that are coming up in July.
Langdon Country Club changes dates for two tournaments
As we have been talking up the last several weeks, tournament season is in full swing at the Langdon Country Club. But the board recently met and changed the dates on two upcoming tourneys. July 2 is now the date for the Men’s City Tournament, which will take the place of Tuesday Men’s League for this one week only. There is a sign up sheet in the clubhouse for this event, which will have both championship and handicap flights. Also the annual Men’s Miller Lite Tournament, normally held in August has been moved up to July 20, which is also Musicfest Saturday in Langdon. The hope there is to get some golfers who will be town to get involved that don’t normally play the course. Hopefully both of these tournaments will be well attended, as we will say again the course is in pristine condition and very worthy of showing off to people from outside the area.
Happy Independence Day, and “See ya!” next week!
