Daryl was born March 17, 1966 in Cavalier to Alvin “Bob” and Beverly (Christianson) Peterson. He grew up with his six brothers on a farm near Vang along the Little Pembina River. Surrounded by many friends and neighbors, his backyard was his favorite playground. He was baptized and confirmed at the Big Pembina Lutheran Church. He graduated from Langdon High School in 1984 and worked in agricultural industries for many years. He enjoyed driving truck for Cenex Harvest States (CHS) in Milton before moving to Lisbon in 1999 to work at Bobcat in Gwinner.  He missed the outdoors and returned to trucking, owning and operating his own truck, before “retiring early” due to poor health. He married Brenda K. Hornung October 6, 1995 in Walhalla. They lived in Walhalla and Lisbon before settling in Forman for the past nineteen years, raising their kids to love the outdoors as much as he did. He had the gift of gab and a smile for everyone he met. He had a love of the outdoors including: kayaking, four wheeling, dirt bikes, snowmobiles and all things racing.  He raced a mini-modified on dirt tracks with friends in Langdon and Hamilton for several years. He was a patient and brave man. He was determined to beat the odds and he did many times. He fought every day to live and be the best dad possible. His children were the greatest gifts he ever received, and he appreciated and loved them more than anything. Father’s Day 2019 was very special for all of them. He was able to watch his kids at the Dakota Rider’s Hill Climb in Valley City, doing what he loved most, supporting his kids.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Brenda, and children Brynn and J.T. of Forman. His mother, Beverly of Walhalla and brothers: Keith of Fargo; Kevin (Shanda) of Walhalla; Paul (Lynne) of Marion, IA; and Ricky (Dawn) of Grand Forks. Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, John and Rosemary Hornung, Brother-in-law, Greg (Becky) Hornung, all of Walhalla; Sisters-in-law: Lynelle (Jeff) Osvold, Cavalier; and Peggy (Shawn) Hanson, Encino, Calif.; his 22 nieces and nephews and four great nieces and nephews, with whom he played an active role and loved very much.

Daryl was preceded in death by his infant children: John, Alvin, Robbie, Jensyn and Josie; his father, Alvin “Bob” Peterson and brothers: Robbie and Tim Peterson.
