It’s once again time to lace up those sneakers and stretch out those muscles as everyone gets ready to Run Langdon on Thursday, July 18. The event, formerly known as the Color Me Healthy run, started three years ago as a way to keep the Team Scrappy spirit alive.

“This event was started as an avenue to promote health and wellness in the community and surrounding area,” organizers said.
Run Langdon and events like it provide multiple angles of benefits to the communities they are held in. Organizers note that the event itself promotes and is about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Walking or running is an activity that is available for everyone. Community events bring people together, both from our area and persons outside of our community. Finally, organizers of Run Langdon try to choose organizations or charities that do not have a regular means of income. This donation allows them to expand their services and benefit more people.
“This event is great because it gives back to the community. Every year the proceeds from this event will go to an organization in the community that promotes health and/or wellness… it can be mental/physical/emotional/financial,” organizers said.
The first year this event was held, organizers were able to give $3,800 to the WeekEND Hunger Project. The second year was even more successful with the event raising $4,000 that was then given to the Cavalier County Behavioral and Mental Health Task Force. Organizers are once again hoping to reach that level of success and be able to donate about $4,000.
This year the funds are going to the sensory room in the Langdon Elementary School. The sensory room is for children to take needed sensory breaks that have those needs. There are multiple activities and exercises that help kids refocus so they could return to the classroom and be successful.
What is better than an event that makes you feel good when you can do all that and do it as a family? Run Langdon is more than just a run/walk for adults; there is a kids event as well. For the more competitive participant- fear not, as organizers say- “you can make it as competitive as you want. You can walk or run any of the events!”
“Events like this are important because they bring people together and give back to the community. This event specifically is important because it a fun way to encourage health and wellness to ALL ages,” organizers stated.
Sponsors help to make the event successful as they provide the financial support along with other support such as snacks, water, and provide volunteers along the route. We also have had booths discussing heart health, sunscreen, financial health, etc.
“We can’t thank our sponsors enough- without their support the event wouldn’t be possible,” organizers said.
“It really is a community effort to make this event happen.”
The Run Langdon events start and end at the Dakota Spirit Arena. The kids run will take place right around the arena, the 5K route will be through Langdon, and the 10K route will be on the gravel outside of Langdon.
