Burial will be in the Aal Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Ida was the youngest child of Theodore J. and Pauline (Fleischmann) Vleck, she was born on January 14, 1933 on the family farm in Easby Township, Cavalier County. Her father instilled in her a love for memorizing poetry and throughout her life she could readily quote poems and Bible verses. Following graduation from Osnabrock High School in 1951, she attended Wessington Springs (SD) College for two years and received her teaching certificate. Between 1953 and 1957 she taught early elementary students in Alsen, Edinburg and Hillsboro. She especially enjoyed teaching children how to read. She married Leonard Overmoe on November 15, 1957 in Grand Forks. They made their home in rural Hillsboro where they raised their family and farmed. She was a talented piano player, a gift she freely shared with others throughout her life in school, church, and amongst family and friends. She taught many of her children and grandchildren how to play piano. At a young age, she committed her life to Jesus Christ. Her love for the Lord was a foundation in her life. She taught Sunday School, was always willing to help others, and volunteered with a variety of organizations, including Valley I Believe In Life, Child Evangelism, and hospice care. Leonard died in 1992 and a few years later she moved to Mayville. Later, she lived at Parkwood Place in Grand Forks, before moving to Fargo. In her last years, she bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease. Although her memory steadily declined, she continued to recite poems and Bible verses she learned as a child, played piano for other residents in the nursing home, remained strong in her faith, and demonstrated love for her family and others.
Ida Mae is survived by her children: Janice (Kirk) Tingum of Grand Forks; Debra (Dennis) Aaker of Fargo; Gerald (Tracie) Overmoe of Moorhead, Minn.; Daniel (Denise) Overmoe of Mayville; David (Deana) Overmoe of Hawley, Minn.; and Rebecca (Richard) Drewlow of Delano, Minn. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
