Summer Baseball reaches the finish line
By Jake Kulland
As we begin this week, we are about to hit the end of July, and that means we are at the end of the summer baseball season. There’s great news in that the Langdon Eagles Babe Ruth baseball team has once again won the District 3 Tournament, and they have now advanced to the 2019 State Babe Ruth Tournament in Watford City July 26-30. This is a 3-Peat for the Eagles, as they won the State Title two years ago and took third last year. This years Eagles team is a young bunch with just two 15-year-olds on the squad, But there is a lot of young talent on the team, and they fought through three close games in the District tourney to advance to State. Meanwhile the Langdon Red Sox American Legion Baseball team was playing in their District 5 Tournament in Hatton, which is running July 23-27. We will have full coverage of the Red Sox run in the tournament next week, but we can tell you that they beat Larimore in the opening round 4-2, then lost to Park River 6-0 in a winners bracket game. With that loss their road to a title and a state tournament appearance is going to be a long one but stranger things have happened. We will report on how they do next week.
Glow-Ball Tournament coming Aug. 2 to the Langdon Country Club
The next big thing at the Langdon Country Club is happening Aug. 2, which is the annual Glow-Ball Tournament. This is an event for anyone who wants to get involved, and it will tee off at disk. Registration is ongoing at the clubhouse, but you also sign up that evening. They will also have potluck supper involved with it this year. This has been a very fun event for the club, so come out on Aug. 2 and have a great time. The format is a four person scramble. Also a reminder that the Borgen String Tournament is coming to the LCC on Aug. 10, with the Women’s City Tourney on Aug. 11. We will talk more about those next week.
High School Football and Volleyball practice on the horizon
We will leave you with the news that August brings the coming of fall sports. High School football practice for the defending State Champion Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals begins Aug. 12, with their first game coming Aug. 23 at home versus Northern Cass. Volleyball practice we starts on Aug. 19, so we remind all athletes in incoming grades 7-12 that they need to get a physical card before they are allowed to practice.
“See ya!” Next week!
