Jake’s Take on Sports

Another surreal week for Cardinals athletics

By Jake Kulland

We come to you with lots of good news once again this week.  The Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals football team absolutely destroyed a very good Lisbon team in the semifinals of the Class A 11-Man Football Playoffs to advance to their third Dakota Bowl at the Fargodome and also their third straight championship game.  The Cards played Minot Ryan on November 15 for what was hoped to be their second straight, back-to-back football titles.  Also Cavalier made it to the Dome for the first time in a couple of years to play Kidder County for the 9-Man championship the same day.  It’s just great stuff to see teams that are just 33 miles apart both make it to title football games, something that doesn’t happen everyday that’s for sure.

While football was winding up its season, the State B Volleyball Tournament is set to start, also at the Fargodome on November 21-23.  The Langdon-Edmore-Munich Cardinals volleyball squad was one step away from making their fourth straight state tourney, as they played North Star once again for the Region 4 Championship in Devils Lake on November 14.  It has been another fantastic year for Lady Cards Volleyball, as their record was 36-3 going into the region title match.  We will let you know how they did next week.

Girls Basketball to crank up

It’s not a War and Peace or Behind the Music length of a column this week, as we are getting ready to cover all of the sporting events mentioned above in a few moments as we type out this week’s words.  We will leave with the information that girls basketball begins practice across the state of North Dakota on November 18.  Langdon-Edmore-Munich, who was ranked second statewide in a pre-season power poll, may have practice pushed back a bit if the girls make the State Volleyball Tourney, but Cardinals basketball coach Rob Scherr is very used to having to wait, and it, of course, is for a very good reason.  The Lady Cards first basketball game is December 6 at home versus North Border, and Shiloh Christian comes all the way up from Bismarck to play in Langdon the afternoon of December 7.

“See ya!” next week!
