Power in being shameless

No, I’m not talking about the TV show, although the writer in me will admit it is excellent in terms of showcasing what people are really like. When I say power in being shameless, I mean the absolute lack of shame that one finds in their beliefs, actions, and words.

There are many examples in today’s world of this power. There are examples of it that can be viewed as positive and negative. There are examples of this in just about every possible way – celebrities, politics, every day people.

The power in being shameless is the confidence that must be there in order to be shameless. It’s utterly amazing to witness someone who has that much confidence in their own words, their actions, their beliefs in a way that can leave many dumbfounded.

Personally, I am shameless in my love of coffee and books. I know others that are shameless in their love for certain celebrities. I know some that are shameless in their beliefs. Others still are shameless in their actions for personal gain.

Every week seems to provide a brand new spectacle of shameless behavior. One thing that I wish was more prominent was the shameless behavior that benefited the world. I like to see the shameless behavior of people doing good for no reason other than it’s the right thing to do. Telling the truth. Seeking the truth. Helping those who need it, no matter what, no matter the time of year.

The power in being shameless in this way is that it benefits us all. The good that can be done when the power of being shameless is put towards benefiting others is astronomical. Around this time of year, the phrase “season of giving” is just about everywhere- the reminder that it’s okay to be kind and to seek out ways to improve not only your own life but others as well.

What makes this even more true now is that there seems to be so little kindness but a whole lot of negative shameless. So, let’s celebrate the power of being shameless in a positive way all year round. Encourage the confidence that it takes to stand up for yourself and the beliefs you have. Be shameless in your kindness, truth, empathy, compassion, and, most of all, self-worth.
