The month of January has brought some busy times for the Langdon-Edmore-Munich girls basketball team. The Lady Cards played three games in the last week, beating Cavalier 70-38 on Jan. 2, having to come back to defeat Carrington on Jan. 4, then rolling a 71-12 victory at Rolla on Jan. 7. After playing at Stephen-Argyle on Jan. 9, the Lady Cards will travel to St. John on Jan. 14, then to North Star on Jan. 17. The Cardinals are now 8-0 on the season, and are ranked second in the state. Here is a recap of their three recent games"

Langdon-Edmore-Munich 70, Cavalier 38

In the first game of their latest run, the Cards scored the first 17 points of the game versus Cavalier to decide things early. The nice thing to see from Langdon-Edmore-Munich was the balanced scoring they had the whole game, as eight different players got in the score book, with six of them scoring eight points or more. They led the Tornadoes 35-7 in the second quarter and did not look back.

Kaitlynn Scherr led the team with 15 points, followed by 11 by Callie Ronningen and 10 from Lexi Olson. Olson also led the team in rebounds with eight, with Morgan Freije pulling down six boards and Kaylee Lowery five. Freije also had a team high five assists. Cavalier was led by Jade Kihne with nine points.

Langdon-Edmore-Munich 65, Carrington 58

The Lady Cards most competitive game they've had of late was when they host Carrington on Jan. 4. This game would be a battle from start to finish. The Cards got six points each from Callie Ronnigen and Kaylee Lowery in the first quarter to help build a 21-16 lead. But Carrington would bounce right back and got to within three points at 33-30 at halftime.

Carrington's Hannah Hagel went to work in the third quarter with seven points to actually help give her team the lead at 47-46 after three quarters.

But the Lady Cards would get some clutch 3-pointers from Ronningen, Kaitlynn Scherr and Jaya Henderson to give the Cardinals the lead and the win.

Ronningen, who had missed practice a day earlier due to the flu, led all scorers with 24 points and four 3's. Scherr reached double figures with 15 points, as did Kaylee Lowery with 10. Hagel led Carrington with 22 points.

Langdon-Edmore-Munich 71, Rolla 12

Not much needs to be said about the Cardinals game with the Bulldogs, outside of saying it was a dominating performance by the Lady Cards. The Langdon-Edmore-Munich defense was so good in fact, the score of the game at halftime was 41-2 (!!).

Offensively the Cards got it going from all different spots on the floor, with four girls in double figures, led by Kaitlynn Scherr with 17, 14 each by Callie Ronningen and Morgan Freije, plus 10 from Lexi Olson.

The Cardinals forced 30 Rolla turnovers, and they pulled off their full court press just a couple of minutes into the game. They had nine different players score in the game. In a bit of strangeness, the JV game had the Lady Cards winning by the exact same score of 71-12.
